Two women, one mission:
to make adaptive clothing for people with disabilities and medical needs that are not only functional but also fashionable. Our clothing goes beyond being adaptable; it’s great design that can be embraced by everyone.
Limitations? So not our style.
Our Beginnings In 2015, Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Julie Sanchez realized the need for adaptive apparel when a parent shared the struggles of caring for a child with a new medical device. “I started asking my patients, and I learned that parents were staying up all night guarding their baby’s g-button. Children were afraid to return to school or sports, scared of being laughed at. Spoonie Threads was born out of this experience and need,” Dr. Sanchez shares.
In 2018, fashion designer Saba Kamaras joined the team, bringing her passion for purposeful design. “My niece was born with muscular dystrophy and had a g-tube placed as a baby. I saw how simple design changes could make life easier for families. I knew there was a huge need for adaptive fashion,” says Saba.
Our Future Starting with stoma, feeding tube, and diabetes care, we’re expanding to include adaptive clothing for babies, kids, teens, and adults, as well as designs for wheelchair users, amputees, and those undergoing surgery or cancer treatments. We’re continuing to rewrite the story of inclusive fashion—creating innovative, functional clothing that empowers every age and stage of life.
