Negative thought cards – Coping thought cards
This is an advanced stage in therapy, in which we identify thoughts and the emotions and behavior that accompany them. We understand that it’s ok to question our thoughts and not necessarily see them as facts. The questions presented by the detective cards do not rule out negative thoughts, but they allow us to discuss our cognitive distortions, examine new perspectives in the way we reflect on our thoughts, and even apply flexible thinking. The purpose of these cards is to practice different ways of thinking about events without invalidating our first automatic thought.
ABC Model
The cognitive-behavioral theory links event-thought-emotion-feeling-behavior. Its underlying premise is that the element that affects our emotions and behavior is our automatic thought, not the events in our lives.
The cognitive-behavioral theory argues that recognizing negative automatic thoughts behind high-intensity emotions and changing or accepting them as mere thoughts, will bring about a change in the intensity of these emotions or transform them into different emotions, which are more suitable to the experienced event.
Thinking Traps Glasses
Thinking Traps are types of thoughts that cause us to perceive reality differently from how it really is, triggering feelings of negativity. You can find an explanation about each Thinking Trap on the back of the board, through the Thinking Glasses cards.
